Antique Victorian Fairy Angel Tree Topper Christmas Decoration
Victorian Angel/Madonna Christmas Tree Topper. An incredibly rare Victorian Angel Christmas tree topper in exceptional condition. From my own personal collection I aquired this piece in Germany some 20 years ago and I believe that it originates from Russia/Eastern Europe, although it has no markings. It is designed around the virgin Mary and she carrys the Baby Jesus in her arms. The torso and faces are made from wax and have been hand painted. The angels hair is made of real hair and the heavily embellished dress is made from fabric. The gold embellishments on the dres, along with the crown are made of a finely woven metal thread. The lace trail did have a pattern to it but due to age the pattern within the lace has disintergrated, but the lace trail itself remains intact. She is quite a heavy piece so if you are intending to use her, she is best suited to large trees with strong tops, although she does also sit well on thick artificial trees. I keep the dress stuffed with old newspaper to help keep her shape but when in use this can be removed to reduce the weigh. She measures roughly 30cm high by 30cm wide and 14cm deep. Vintage decorations make a wonderful gift and last a lifetime, bringing memories year after year.
