Our extensive tests have proven Rayovac and Energizer brands work best and are good at taking a recharge during the daytime. Our circuitry provides the same slow & low charge that typical recharging units provide, we just use the Sun instead of a plug. Most alkaline batteries will accept a recharge if you give them an amount of current they like, just not as many times as NiCd or NiMh batteries. But alkalines will still give you brightly lit candles after an overcast day and if you don’t get fantastic direct Southern Exposure, whereas NiCd’s and Nimh’s will not. This is why alkaline batteries are the overall best choice. And also because some people who get copious amounts of direct Southern Exposure may want to play around with using NiCd’s or NiMh’s.
