Original Set of 6 Antique Victorian 1890′s Vintage Chenille & Mercury Glass People Christmas Decorations. A very rare and complete set of original Victorian, circa 1890 – 1900, antique people Christmas tree decorations. These have been made from true mercury glass beads (where the silver is trapped inside the glass rather than just applied to the interiors) and small baubles that are double piked and held together on lengths of chenille. The heads are clear glass beads that have been painted white with hand painted faces on them. They have then been finished with a red chenille hat. The legs and arms are unpainted with the silver nitrate showing, the body has been overpainted red and the feet gold (1 piece has silver feet). Only 2 of the pieces have the original wire ties on them – the other 4 have had replacement hangers added. These were the precursor to the more modern chenille people that appeared in the 1960′s – 1970′s. Measuring roughly 6.5cm by 4cm they remain in a good condition with wear predominantly to the faces and some loss of red on the bodies. They have been wrapped in a lovely box ready to give as a gift, or maybe just to treat yourself, and to keep them safe whilst in storage. The gift boxes measure 9cm square making them ideal as stocking fillers and they can also be hung from larger trees if desired. Vintage decorations make a wonderful gift and last a lifetime, bringing memories year after year. Finding a decoration from your own childhood and long since forgotten, can bring back some of the happiest memories from very early childhood. Good Vintage Condition – varying degrees of wear to the painted faces and loss of red paint to bodies. The legs and arms are in perfect condition and no breaking down of the silver nitrate has occured. New hangers have been attached to 4 pieces – 2 have the origin wire ties. Vintage decorations are not toys – They are often fragile and can contain lead or wire. We test our lights to ensure that they work – We do not however have the facilities to PAT (safety test) them.
